Festival of Trees: North Bay and Parry Sound

Posted: May 1, 2014

I just returned from the Festival of Trees Author Tour in North Bay and Parry Sound from April 28-30th. What a great adventure! I met so many awesome kids who love books and reading. There were 1,500 kids in attendance at the Nipissing University campus in North Bay and over 700 at a local Parry Sound high school. The excitement and enthusiasm from all the festival readers was overwhelming. I ran a couple of workshops and met with lots of readers. And, to my surprise, the students of the Near North voted Weird Zone: Sports the runner-up in the Silver Birch Non-Fiction category. What an honour!

I also had the chance to meet several of the authors nominated for Festival of Trees awards. They were all so gracious and inspiring. It was a real thrill. And to top off the visit, my kids came along with me. (Who doesn't love a good road trip?) Looking forward to the Forest of Reading Event in Toronto in two weeks time. I'm counting my lucky stars right now!

Me and my sign
from the "parade
of authors." Yes, there was a parade!

This is what 1,500 kids looks like! Thanks for coming out, North Bay!

Who knew you could get so intense
talking about wok racing?
